About Us
We are a family owned and operated ranch that produces a quality cut of beef. Karla is a 5th generation rancher that grew up raising and showing purebred Charolais. Derek is a 4th generation rancher that grew up on a cow/calf operation. Both Karla and Derek have taken the family ranching traditions down a little different road allowing them to reach the consumer directly and allowing them to see where and how their beef was raised.
Our Cattle
Today we focus on producing the optimum beef for the customer, by genetic selection, grass quality, and carefully calculated feed rations during the finishing phase. We are BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) certified, the cattle are worked in a low stress environment to keep the cattle and the workers safe. We work closely with Veterinarians to develop a herd health management program using preventative measures to keep cattle as healthy and productive as possible. All cows, bulls, and heifers on the ranch are grass fed with a protein supplement when needed. Our steer will be on grass (hay during the winter) and will also be finished using a carefully formulated feed ration to get the desired marbling that consumers prefer.
Our Land
Mid Missouri Beef is located in Lincoln, Missouri, just off of highway 65. The main forage on the ranch consists of fescue with legumes such as red clover, ladino clover, and lespedezas scattered throughout the property. We utilize rotational grazing, never over graze our paddocks or over stock our land. We do push our land to provide maximum potential and that sometimes calls for fertilizing, reseeding and allowing the land to rest when needed. We ask a lot out of our land, so we have to focus on sustainability and conserving our resources. The forage that this land produces is vital for cattle nutrition.
